Priorities for Creating a Better Future for District 2

My vision is to see District 2 as a vibrant and thriving community. I envision a district where there is access to affordable and nutritious food, safe and affordable housing, where businesses thrive, crime is low, the community has a better relationship with police officers, and residents feels safe and supported.

  • As a City Council candidate for District 2, Sacramento, CA, I am deeply committed to addressing the pressing issues of homelessness and affordable housing. Our district, with its disproportionate number of unhoused individuals and limited housing stock, requires urgent and thoughtful action.

Homelessness is a complex issue that affects not only those who experience it but also the safety and well-being of our entire community. It’s a crisis that demands a comprehensive and compassionate approach. The causes of homelessness are multifaceted, including mental health issues, addiction, a lack of safe and affordable housing, aging out of foster care, and domestic violence. To address this, I propose the establishment of a multi-disciplinary task force. This team will work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive needs assessment and strategic plan to address homelessness in our district. By bringing all stakeholders to the table, we can leverage resources and provide a case-managed approach to support our unhoused neighbors with compassion and dignity.

Affordable Housing is a critical component of this plan. I am committed to tirelessly advocating for the development of affordable housing options in our district. This includes engaging with stakeholders, promoting initiatives for affordable housing, and supporting shelters and mental health services. It is my strong belief that everyone deserves a place to call home. By addressing housing affordability and providing supportive services, we can build a community where residents are cared for and feel safe. Together, we can make District 2 a place we’re all proud to call home.

  • Safety is important for the well-being of our residents. I will continue to support crime prevention strategies that are community-driven and focused on collaboration between law enforcement and citizens.  Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community is a  priority. In recent times, our district has faced a surge in crime, particularly incidents of gun violence that have directly impacted our parks, making them unsafe for our children to play. It is important to create an environment where you, the residents, not only feel secure but can actively enjoy the public spaces that belong to you.

Ensuring community safety requires a collaborative approach that goes beyond traditional law enforcement efforts. Community policing involves building strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies and District 2 residents. By engaging in open dialogue, law enforcement can better understand the specific needs and concerns of our residents, ultimately tailoring their strategies to address the unique challenges of our district.

Investing in parks and recreation is a vital aspect of our safety strategy. Our parks should be havens for families, providing a safe space for your children to play and for you to engage in recreational activities. This includes collaborating with local agencies and community organizations to implement programs that promote positive engagement and unity. Together, let us build a district that thrives on the principles of safety, justice, and unity. I am committed to creating a community where residents feel not only safe but also empowered to actively contribute to the betterment of our neighborhood.

  • Revitalizing our local economy is crucial for the prosperity of our district. I am dedicated to driving economic development by advocating for innovation and investing in long-overdue infrastructure improvements.  To breathe new life into our boulevard we need to establish a collaborative diverse task force, including business owners, potential investors, developers, residents, community leaders, and public officials, to create a comprehensive plan for its revitalization.  We need to attract investors to invest in our community. I would like to see an investment in individual assets, otherwise known as Mom and Pops and provide the appropriate support and resources for the businesses to be successful and sustainable.

I will work with the city, and state officials to advocate for sufficient funding and resources for our District and identify available tax incentives and grants to motivate businesses to invest in our community. Additionally, I will establish a Community-Based Agreement to guarantee that the generated tax dollars stay within our area.  Together, we will create an environment that attracts businesses and envisions a future where our district's infrastructure is not only thriving but also driving sustainable growth.
